have great memories of growing up in my beloved Jamaica and am extremely grateful for my rich culture and heritage. From the age of seven I dreamed of seeing America with its theme parks, candy stores, and terrific skyscrapers that pierce the sky. My father was an alcoholic and a gambler, so life was tumultuous and particularly unpredictable, especially when he got bad cards in poker. When he lost big, they came and picked up all our furniture. My mom blamed it on the devil, my grandma blamed it on my mom, and I just imagined myself away from it all, sitting somewhere in Disneyworld next to Cinderella.

The project was initiated by the Bustamante Foundation. The museum has been established in the house where the Bustamantes lived, between the 1940s and 1960s. The premises were acquired by the Government of Jamaica in 1989 as a national monument and then placed under the holdings of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT). The Bustamante Foundation has leased the premises from the JNHT for the purpose of establishing the museum.
Sunrise Talent Development Program is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to enable the Toronto International Jamaica Day organization to focus on developing Canadian artists year-round. Through various showcases and educational workshops artists will learn stage presence and marketing with an emphasis on vocal performance. Artists will also be shown how to look for management and to create a business strategy. In 2011 for the first time we are excited that this event will be produced under the Sunrise umbrella.
