n November 1968 KEM INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION of ATLANTA, GEORGIA established operations in Jamaica as a manufacturer and distributor of Industrial and Institutional Chemicals. The Company which was registered as CEK JAMAICA LIMITED grew steadily between 1969 and 1987, when it was sold to local management under a special re-organization agreement. Between 1989 and 1992, the Company experienced severe financial difficulties and eventually went into receivership in May 1993. In August 1993, a conglomerate of financial institutions and trading companies, headed by Mr. Elon E. Beckford established KEMICALS WORLDWIDE LIMITED to acquire all the trademarks of KEM as well as the other assets of CEK JAMAICA LIMITED. The KEM trademarks are internationally registered and are marketed throughout North and Central America and the Caribbean. KEMICALS WORLDWIDE owns the distribution rights in all the CARICOM markets, including Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, Belize and Cayman, with option to register in Cuba and Haiti when this becomes possible.
